L'Atelier is a world-class restaurant. My wife and I have been here twice (once in 2007 and again in 2009). What makes it so remarkable is the depth and quality of their tasting menu. You can share and sample so many flavors -- like an endless parade of oversized amuse-bouche. So be forewarned: this isn't some celebrity chef outpost. L'Atelier is the real deal for people who seek creative, unique gastronomic experiences.
With that in mind, my wife and I decided to order a broad selection of sharable plates. Of the dozen or so small items, not a one disappointed. Each plate was portioned for a couple of bites each for my wife and I; just enough to savor the incredible flavor. It's very hard to narrow down favorites, but we'd recommend:
- Crispy langoustine fritters
- Any of their dishes with foie gras, especially the burgers and the free-range quail (mashed potatoes a bonus on that one)
- Scallops cooked with truffle butter
- Lobster in ring of macaroni
- Sea bass
Of course, great food requires great service. L'Atelier delivers here, too. Our waiter was an eager partner, helping us choose the best selections from an incredible menu. He, and the kitchen, did a great job of timing; each dish arrived at the exact right time (not too soon, not too late). The restaurant manager also dropped by a few times to share some of his favorite dishes and experiences with us.
I've never been anywhere as wonderful as L'Atelier, and I've had the good fortune to dine at some truly great restaurants across the globe. If you're looking for unforgettable dining experiences, L'Atelier should be at the top of your list.
