You won’t find many restaurants like Salt. It’s a self-titled tasting room -- and that’s an apt description. Tina and I had a light lunch here that was simply delightful. Here’s the skinny:
What we had
The menu is written up on the chalkboard. We chose three meats and two cheeses:
- Pork Salami with Lamb Prosciutto
- Corned Beef
- Chorizo Rioja
- Berkswell sheep’s cheese
- Tanzanian blue cheese
Salt includes a choice of complimentary condiments designed to enhance the experience. Our waitress suggested peppers, mustard, and relish. The taste combinations were amazing! Surprisingly, honey accompanied the blue and proved to be unusual yet very compatible.
Service and surroundings
What you pay for, really, is the expertise of the staff. Sure, you could go to the nearest deli and hope for the best. But Salt goes much further than that. They carefully choose meats and cheeses from around the globe. Our server was very well educated; she was polite, helpful, and engaging. Frankly, we would have been lost without her.
The restaurant itself is both modern and modest. The dining room is open and airy with a warm splash of exposed brick against one wall. The open kitchen sits at the front of the room allowing patrons to watch the chef at work. It lends to an almost sushi-bar like atmosphere.
Bottom line: I’d absolutely recommend Salt. It’s not inexpensive but I found the quality just superb. Salt offers great gourmet value which makes for a very memorable meal.
