Artie’s: Once great NY deli goes flat
★★☆☆☆ An old favorite deli struggles to maintain quality
We go to places. We eat food. We are famous.

We started off in style, hiring a Bentley to take us to the airport. Tim, a UK ex-pat, drove us through Friday rush hour traffic with conversation and cool. That’s us, above, in front of our luxmobile. It was pretty sweet I gotta say -- and it was my one, final surprise for Tina! She loved it.
After Paris we plan to catch an overnight train to Venice, where we'll spend three days touring museums and the island city. Then, off to Milan and Nice, where we'll rent a car and drive to Barcelona.
We'll be staying in an apartment in Montmarte, dining at some of the best places in Paris, and checking out the Moulin Rouge.
London is familiar territory for us: museums, concerts, shopping, and food. Here's our plan for the first week in Europe.
I don’t know what to expect, here. We board the QM2 for a one-week cruise from New York to Southampton (just north of London). Having never been the “crusing” type, it’s hard to imagine how we’ll spend seven days on a ship.
I can’t say Beijing was ever on my short list of places to visit, but it should have been. I’ve discovered my favorite hotel (The Opposite House) and many wonderful places I can’t wait to share with Tina.
I had a good day, today. It started with an energizing stroll past the many embassies that line my route to the nearest subway station. After a short ride I stroll into the Sigma building and get down to work.
I’m very lucky. My job is very rewarding in many ways, not the least of which includes regular sojourns to Beijing. I used to fly United but -- for reasons that will be apparent to anyone who flies United -- I’m always looking for better carriers. Right now, China’s Hainan Airways is my choice.
I thought it might be fun to write up what I think will happen on our trip. Partly this is for friends and family who’d rather not download a PowerPoint deck to see what it’s all about. New York will be the first stop on our adventure.
The plan is finally in place: we'll cover lots of cities across two continents in five weeks.
It’s our last day in Vancouver and I’m catching a little coffee while Tina wanders Robson. Rain be damned, we’re still to make the most of our trip.
